Québec insurance policy
The subject of insurance can be a complicated one, but it’s important you know how and when our policies cover you and your passengers in the event of an incident. The following is an overview of how our insurance policies work. Below are the two coverages included in our insurance policies (policy limits vary based on the period of a ride):
- Civil Liability Coverage
- Contingent Comprehensive & Collision Coverage
In addition to our insurance policies, the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) provides public auto insurance coverage for all residents of Quebec. The coverage provided includes:
- Bodily Injury Coverage

What coverage does the SAAQ provide?
Bodily Injury Coverage
As a driver in Quebec, you're automatically covered by the SAAQ’s bodily injury insurance. This insurance is applicable regardless of whether your Lyft Driver app is on or off. This does not include vehicle damage or liability for property damage. For further information, visit the SAAQ website.
What coverages does Lyft provide?
Civil Liability Coverage
Our civil liability coverage is designed to protect against damage to third party property during the time the Lyft Driver app is on and available to accept a ride request (also known as “driver mode”) until the ride has ended in the app. The policy provides coverage for damage to other vehicles or property in the event of an accident.
Contingent Comprehensive and Collision Coverage
Our contingent comprehensive and collision coverage is designed to cover physical damage to your vehicle resulting from a non-collision event (vandalism, natural disaster, etc.) or accident as long as you have obtained the coverages on your personal automobile policy. The coverage will apply up to the actual cash value of your vehicle or cost of repair, whichever is less. The policy has a $1,000 deductible.
Note: All coverages may be modified to comply with local regulations and/or provincial laws.
When do these coverages apply?
Personal use: Coverage when driver mode is off
Your personal insurance is your insurance policy.
