You can pay for Lyft rides in the app, by adding your preferred payment method.
Lyft stores your payment info, and you can view it any time in the 'Payment' tab. You can add many forms of payment and choose which one to use after your ride ends on the 'Payment' screen.
Add or update payment method
Payment methods can be set for both business and personal Lyft accounts in the 'Payment' tab of the app.
To add a new payment method from the main menu:
Open the Lyft app
Open the menu in the top left
Tap 'Payment' to add or update payment info
You can also add or change your payment method before requesting a ride. Tap the payment method below the ride types, after you confirm your drop-off location.
Note: You can't delete a default payment method unless you add a new one.
Linking your Venmo account
To link your Venmo to your Lyft account, first make sure you have the Venmo app installed on your device and that you’re signed in.
Follow the steps above as if you were adding any other payment method.
When you tap ‘Venmo,’ this will launch the Venmo app. Once you authorize Lyft in your Venmo app, you can start paying for rides with Venmo.
Split the ride directly from your Venmo payment feed after your ride is complete
If you decide to remove Venmo from your payment options, go to the ‘Payment’ screen under the main menu and tap ‘Venmo’ to remove it.
Note: removing Venmo from your payment options does not disconnect Lyft from your Venmo account. To permanently disconnect Lyft from your Venmo account, go to ‘Settings’ in your Venmo app to remove Lyft.
Lyft works with major credit cards (like American Express, Visa, Mastercard®, and Discover), debit cards, and prepaid cards. You can also use PayPal (for iOS and Android users), Apple Pay, Google Pay, Venmo, or link your bank checking account (in select cities).
To add PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay, or Google Pay, passengers must also have a valid debit or credit card on file. For account balance issues, please reach out to your bank or PayPal.
We’ll let you know in the app if your debit or credit card expires soon. If a charge fails, we’ll ask you to enter your payment info again into the app, then the charge will process.
To view your charges and fees, tap ‘Payment’ on the main menu in the app, and then tap ‘Payment history'.
