Getting started
How it works
Media tablets let riders choose their favorite songs, view their route, and tip during the ride. They can also be paired with Bluetooth-enabled speakers. However, Bluetooth isn't required for the tablet to work.
These tablets are loaded with Lyft-only software and can’t be used for any other purpose (including giving Uber rides). They also don’t need to be paired with your phone.
Media tablets come with a security cable and key. We recommend using the security cable and taking the tablet out of your vehicle when you’re done giving rides.
Eligibility
Tablets are installed and running when you rent an Express Drive vehicle. If you’re driving a private vehicle, you must be recruited, sign up, and self-install the tablet that Lyft ships to you.
You are eligible for recruitment if you:
- Give at least 45 rides per week.
- Drive in Atlanta, Austin, Colorado, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Maryland, North Carolina, Philadelphia, Phoenix, San Antonio, Virginia, or Washington D.C.
Note: New York drivers are also eligible but will need to schedule an appointment to receive their tablet in-person.
Setting up your tablet
To mount your tablet:
- Assemble the mount on the back of your headrest.
- Place the tablet on the mount.
- Plug the cable into the port and the other end into the vehicle charger.
To set up your tablet:
- Turn it on by pressing the power button at the top left (if the tablet doesn’t turn on, you’ll need to charge it).
- Select the blue button at the bottom right of your screen to go to settings, then bluetooth.
- Select ‘Visible now’ and allow for the pairing.
- Turn on your vehicle to pair your tablet.
Note: You can use your tablet without connecting it to your vehicle’s bluetooth.
Media tablets come with a security cable and key. We recommend using the security cable and taking the tablet out of your vehicle when you’re done giving rides.
Contact support if you have trouble setting up your Lyft Media tablet. If you’re an Express Drive renter with questions about installation, contact Flexdrive support.
How earnings work
You can earn advertising revenue from advertisers using your tablet. On average, drivers who gave 60 rides with ads per week earned an extra $25 per month from tablet advertising earnings.
Drivers also earned an average of $75 in tips per month directly from their tablet and 13% more tips overall than drivers who don’t have a tablet. All tips and revenue shared through Lyft Media are paid directly to you.
Advertising earnings are available weekly and are automatically added to the tips section of your earnings reports.
Please allow between 24 and 48 hours for tips from your tablet to show up in your account.
If you have any questions about your Lyft Media earnings, contact support.
Return your tablet
Contact support to return a Lyft Media tablet. You’ll be given a prepaid return label to ship the tablet.
To return a tablet:
- Print out the label that the Lyft Media support team provided.
- Pack up the tablet in any package or box and take it to your nearest postal office.
- Message the support team as soon as the tablet has been dropped off.
Note: New York drivers will have to physically bring the tablet back to the location where they picked it up.
Report a stolen or damaged tablet
Contact support if your tablet or tablet accessory is broken, stolen, you need troubleshooting help, or if you'd like to return it.
After contacting support your tablet will be deactivated. You’ll need to provide your current shipping address to the support agent to verify your information and receive a new tablet.
If your tablet is damaged, you’ll need to send it back for security reasons. You won’t be penalized or removed from the program for returning a damaged tablet.
Note: Express Drive renters should report a stolen or damaged tablet through Flexdrive.
