Line Commuter Benefits

Lyft has partnered with WageWorks®, Zenefits, Benefit Resource, Commuter Benefit Solutions, and Navia to help make your commute easier. When you take Line rides in New York City, Boston, Seattle, or Miami, you can save up to 40% by using pre-tax dollars to pay for commute.

What are commuter benefits?

Commuter benefits are employer-provided benefit programs that allow employees to use pre-tax dollars toward their monthly commuting expenses for transit, vanpooling, bicycling, and work-related parking costs.

What’s the benefit of using commuter benefits on Lyft Line rides?

When you pay for Line rides using your commuter benefits prepaid card, you can save up to 40% using pre-tax dollars on your door-to-door rides. Your amount of savings will depend on your tax bracket. Check with your benefits provider for your exact savings!

Who can use commuter benefits on Lyft Line rides?

Riders are eligible to use pre-tax dollars on Line rides if their employer provides commuter benefits through eligible providers (see list below) and if the rides are taken within the Lyft Line coverage areas of New York City, Boston, Seattle, or Miami. Not all employers offer commuter benefits, so please check with your employer.

Which commuter benefits providers are eligible?

We work with WageWorks, TransitChek, Benefit Resource, Commuter Benefit Solutions, Ameriflex, Navia, Zenefits, and EBPA. If your employer has a different provider, you can contact your employer or provider to determine whether your pre-tax dollars can be used to pay for Line rides.

Not at the time. Some providers don’t offer that capability, but we hope to support that feature with providers in the future.

No. Your commuter benefits prepaid card is meant to be used for rides to and from work, but since people may need to get to work at different times, there are no hour restrictions.

Can I bring other passengers with me?

Yes, you can bring one other person if you request a Line ride for two people. Please note that just like any other Line ride, an additional fee applies for an additional rider.

Since there are fewer cars with six seats or more on the road, your ETA may be longer than usual when you request a Line using your commuter benefits prepaid card. We recommend requesting your commuter benefits Line ride a few minutes early.

You can use up to $255 pre-tax dollars on Line rides each month. In order to change the maximum amount or check the balance remaining on it, please visit your benefits provider’s website.

No. At this time, you can only use your commuter benefits prepaid card for Line rides and can’t purchase a flat fare pass or ride pass using this payment method. If you want to purchase a pass, you can switch your default payment method and then buy the pass. You can change your default payment method at any time from the ‘Payment’ tab in the Lyft app.
