How will I be notified about cleaning fees?
You’ll receive an email if you're charged a damage fee. This email will include details about which ride the fee is for, and photos of the damage.
You'll get an updated receipt after the damage fee has been charged. You can also check out details in the 'Ride history' tab of the Lyft app. Any damage fees will show under that ride.
If you believe we've missed any information regarding your case, reply directly to our follow-up email.
Cleaning fee amounts
Damage charges vary based on the severity. Damage charges help the driver pay to have their car cleaned or repaired.
Damage fee amounts are based on the type and severity of the damage. Here are the typical fees for types of damage:
- $20: Minor damage such as mud, dirt, fur, food or drink residue on the vehicle seats.
- $40: Moderate messes such as biowaste, and large messes from food or spills, on the exterior or floorboard of the vehicle.
- $80: Moderate messes such as biowaste and large messes from food or spills, on the vehicle’s interior.
- $150: Major damage such as extensive damage to the vehicle’s interior or exterior.
We don’t reimburse for routine cleaning such as:
- Food wrappers, empty water bottles, left behind trash
- Water on seats or floorboards
- Unpleasant smells
- Wear and tear
- Time spent cleaning
- Time spent not driving because of damage
