    Vehicle requirements

    We have high safety standards for vehicles on the Lyft platform, which include meeting any city or province requirements.
    Taxis and stretch limousines are not allowed on the Lyft platform. We are no longer accepting many subcompact vehicles.

    If you need to take your vehicle to a mechanic, go to the Driver Dashboard for further instructions. If there's no inspection form provided there, use this inspection form.

    Vehicle age

    In Canada, vehicles are requirements are as follows:
    • Toronto and Greater Toronto: 2014 or newer
    • British Columbia: 2012 or newer
    • Ottawa: 2010 or newer

    Doors and seatbelts

    All Lyft vehicles are required to have 4 doors and a minimum of 5 seatbelts (including the driver's).

    Subcompact vehicles

    To provide a comfortable rider experience, certain subcompact vehicles are not eligible on the Lyft platform as of February 25, 2019. Subcompact vehicles typically have an interior combined passenger and cargo volume index of less than 100 cubic feet, which makes for a tight space for passengers.
    List of ineligible subcompact makes and models:
    • Chevrolet: Aveo, Aveo5, Metro, Sonic, Volt
    • Daewoo: Lanos
    • Ford: Fiesta
    • Hyundai: Accent
    • Kia: Rio, Rio 5-Door, Rio Cinco, Rio5
    • Mazda: Mazda 2
    • MINI: Cooper, Cooper Clubman, Cooper Countryman, Cooper Countryman Hybrid, Cooper Hardtop, Cooper S, Cooper S Clubman, Cooper S Countryman, Cooper S Countryman All4, Cooper S Countryman All4 Hybrid, Cooper S Countryman Hybrid, Cooper S Hardtop
    • Pontiac: G3
    • Scion: xD
    If you're an existing driver and you were approved to drive with a subcompact vehicle prior to February 25, 2019, you'll be able to continue driving with your existing subcompact vehicle. You won't be able to add a second vehicle that is classified as subcompact, or replace your existing vehicle with a different subcompact vehicle.
