Saskatchewan Insurance Policy
It's important to understand how you and your passengers will be covered in the event of an incident. The following is an overview of how auto insurance works in the province of Saskatchewan.
Skip to:
How to report an accident
Report any accidents here. Make sure you file a claim with SGI (Saskatchewan General Insurance) and provide proof of personal insurance to relevant parties at the scene of an accident.
What coverages are provided?
In Saskatchewan, both Personal and Passenger Vehicle for Hire auto insurance are only available through SGI Auto Fund (Saskatchewan General Insurance). Lyft contributes an additional premium to SGI, ensuring your basic plate insurance also covers rideshare activity.
Basic plate insurance offers $200,000 in liability coverage. Should damages exceed this amount Lyft’s additional liability insurance will provide coverage up to $2,000,000.
What coverage does SGI Auto Fund provide?
Automobile Liability Coverage
This policy acts as primary coverage for third party liability coverage for bodily injuries or property damage that others may suffer in the event of an accident.
Statutory Accident Benefits Coverage
This provides Accident Benefits that you are entitled to receive if you are injured in an accident, regardless of who caused the accident.
Uninsured Automobile Coverage
In the event of an accident with a driver who is uninsured or underinsured and is ultimately at fault for bodily injury caused to you and/or your passengers, our Uninsured coverage will apply.
Vehicle Damage Coverage
The policy provides collision and comprehensive protection for damage to your vehicle, subject to a $700 deductible.
What coverage does Lyft provide?
Excess Automobile Liability Coverage
Our liability coverage is designed to act as the secondary coverage from the time of accepting a ride request until the ride has ended in the app.
The policy provides coverage for your liabilities for bodily injuries or losses that others may suffer in the event of an accident.
Excess Statutory Accident Benefits Coverage
This provides Accident Benefits that you are entitled to receive if you are injured in an accident, regardless of who caused the accident.
Excess Uninsured Automobile Coverage
In the event of an accident with a driver who is uninsured or underinsured and is ultimately at fault for bodily injury caused to you and/or your passengers, our Uninsured coverage will apply.
Excess Contingent Comprehensive & Collision Coverage
Our contingent comprehensive and collision coverage is designed to cover physical damage to your vehicle resulting from a non-collision event (vandalism, natural disaster, etc.) or accident. The coverage will apply up to the actual cash value of your vehicle or cost of repair, whichever is less. The policy has a $2,500 deductible.
Note: All coverages may be modified to comply with local regulations and/or provincial laws.
