Lyft Family

Lyft Family allows you to link accounts with other riders. Your Family members can use a shared payment method to pay for all Lyft rides. You’ll also have access to safety features, including the ability to share ride details (driver details and location tracking).
As the Admin of the Lyft Family account, you can share your payment method with your family members to pay for rides, send gift cards/preloaded funds to members with set amounts and invite a specific member to Lyft Silver. You'll also receive notifications for all rides taken by family members using the shared payment method.
As a member of a Family account, you can tap Lyft Family as a payment method before requesting a ride. Your Admin can track your ride in real time and access ride payments taken on the Family account.
Note: Each Lyft Family account can include:
  • Up to 10 total people (including the Admin)
  • Only 1 Admin per family account
  • Members can only belong to one family account at a time
  • Only the Admin, has full control to add or remove members whenever needed.
  • Members can leave a Family at any time. Doing so will remove their access to any shared payment methods.

How to create a Family Account
To create a Family account:
  • Open your Lyft app and tap the 'Family' tab under your account settings
  • Select 'Invite a Family Member'
  • Choose the Member Type (adult 18+ or older adult - Lyft silver)
  • Enter their contact information (If the new family member does not have an existing Lyft account, they will receive an invitation to join).
  • Choose your payment method to share or send a gift card
  • Review your settings and send the invitation
Invitations expire after 30 days but can be resent once if needed.
Removing family members
As the Admin of the family account, you can remove family members at any time through your Family Hub
To remove a member from the Family account:
  1. Go to the 'Family' tab under your account settings
  2. Select the member's name, and then select "Remove from family."
Please note:
  • Members currently in a ride cannot be removed.
  • Removed members will receive an email notification confirming the change.
  • They'll keep their personal ride history but lose the family connection
  • Members can also leave the family voluntarily if they choose
To delete the Family account:
  1. Go to the 'Family' tab under your account settings
  2. Select "Delete family."
Family payment info and ride history
Family members can pay for their Lyft rides using the admin’s saved payment method for Lyft Family. Only the admin can see payment details and share a payment method with other Family members.
To update the shared payment method for 'Family members':
  1. Open your Lyft app
  2. Tap 'View account' in the menu
  3. Tap ‘Lyft Family’
  4. Go to ‘Shared payment’
  5. Tap the payment method to update
To track the ride history for Family rides:
  1. Open your Lyft app
  2. Tap 'View account' in the menu
  3. Tap 'Lyft Family'
  4. Check 'Recent rides'
Note: 
  • Currently, only one payment method can be shared within a Family.
  • Members cannot use the shared payment method to purchase gift cards or remove the shared card themselves. Only an Admin can add or remove shared payment methods.
