PIN verification for riders

PIN verification helps you make sure you’re with the right driver before starting the ride. This is an optional feature.
Note: PIN verification may not be available for every ride.

How it works
You’ll automatically get a four-digit code in your Lyft app at pickup. You’ll share the PIN with your driver, then they’ll enter it into their Lyft Driver app.
If you have the right driver, the ride will continue as usual.
Turning PIN verification on or off
To turn PIN verification on or off, open the main menu in the Lyft app, then:
  1. Select ‘Settings.’
  2. Select ‘Safety tools,’ then ‘PIN verification.’
  3. Turn PIN verification on or off.
Note: You can choose to require PIN verification on every ride or only at night (9 PM–6 AM).
PIN didn’t work
If you can’t find the PIN, ask your driver to select ‘Rider can’t find PIN’ in their Lyft Driver app. This will send a new unique PIN to your Lyft app.
Note: The driver may cancel the ride if the PIN can’t be verified for your and your driver’s safety.
Continue with ride
The driver can also choose to continue with the ride if they’ve confirmed your name and pickup details.
