Promotions, ride discounts, and Lyft credit
You can use ride discounts and Lyft credits with promo codes.
To view available Lyft promo codes, please visit this page.
Promotions may also be automatically applied to your account. Tap the 'Rewards' tab to see promotion details, such as value, expiration, ride limits, and terms.

Viewing your active promos in the app
View your active promos in the ‘Rewards’ tab in the Lyft app. The ‘Rewards’ tab will show the value of the promo, expiration date, and ride limits.
To view your active promos:
- Open the Lyft app’s main menu.
- Tap ‘Rewards.’
Ride discounts
Claim ride discounts by entering a promo code in the app. You can see if a promo code was added to a ride in the ‘Ride history’ tab.
Ride discounts are only valid for one ride. Once you use it, you can’t use it again, even if there’s still credit left.
After you apply a promo, any fare remaining is charged to your default payment method.
The highest value will apply if you have more than one promo available. When you sign up with Lyft using a promo code, it’s immediately applied to your new Lyft account.
Tap the 'Rewards' tab to see promo details, such as value, expiration, ride limits, and terms.
Some promotions are invite-only or only available for a limited time. We can’t extend offers beyond the expiration date. Check the 'Rewards' tab for promo details and expiration dates.
Adding promos to your account
For your promo code to apply, you must add it before taking your ride.
To add a promo code to your account:
- Open the Lyft app’s main menu.
- Tap ‘Rewards.’
- Tap ‘Add promo code,’ then enter the code.
Applying promos to a ride
We’ll automatically apply any of your available promos or ride credits toward eligible rides. This doesn’t include Lyft Business rides.
If you want to use a specific promo code, choose the promo you want to use at the start or end of your ride.
To change your payment method:
- Request a ride by entering a destination in the Lyft app.
- Tap the payment methods above the ‘Select Lyft’ button.
- Choose which promo code or payment method you want from the list of options.
Check your email or the ‘Notifications’ tab in your app for promo offers.
Lyft will automatically combine coupons to apply the largest discount to the ride. You’ll see that discount amount reflected in the upfront price for the ride. You can also pick which coupons you want to apply on the rate and tip screen after you’re dropped off.
Note: Credit usage is limited at 10 credits per ride.
Rider referral discount
To refer a rider to Lyft:
- Open the Lyft app’s main menu, then tap ‘Refer a friend.’
- Tap ‘Get started’ or an active offer.
- Tap ‘Copy link’ or ‘Share’ to send the invite code.
To receive your offer for a rider referral, the person you refer must:
- Be in an eligible market.
- Be new to Lyft, which means they’ve never requested a Lyft ride or used other codes before.
- Enter the code before requesting any rides.
- Take the ride before the code expires.
Driver referral discount
To refer a driver to Lyft:
- Open the Lyft app’s main menu, then tap ‘Refer a friend.’
- Tap the active offer to refer a driver.
- Tap ‘Copy link’ or ‘Share’ to send the invite code.
To receive your promotion for a driver referral, the person you refer must:
- Be in an eligible market.
- Have never been a Lyft driver, or they gave their last ride before January 1, 2020.
- Meet all eligibility requirements.
- Satisfy applicable Reward Criteria.
Receiving discounts as a referrer
Discounts or credits appear after the rider takes their first ride or the driver meets specific requirements. Coupons are valid for the number of days listed in the promotion.
To see your earned rewards:
- Open the Lyft app’s main menu.
- Tap ‘Rewards.’
Error message
If you get an error message, the code isn't available. You can try a different code. If that code doesn't work, your account isn't eligible for that promo.
A promo code may not work because it’s:
- Expired: Most codes expire on a certain date. The expiration date and time are specified in the ‘Rewards’ tab.
- Limited to a certain location: Some codes are only valid in specific cities or for rides going to or from an exact location. You can’t apply a credit to unqualified rides.
- A different currency: Promos for ride credit can only be used if the promo currency matches the currency where a ride taken. For example, ride credit in US dollars can't be used where rides are charged in Canadian dollars.
- A business ride: Currently, ride credits won't apply by default to Business Profile rides because your employer typically reimburses you for these. On the rate and pay screen after your ride has ended, you can manually apply a specific promo code by tapping on your payment method (just above where it says either 'Business' or 'Personal'). From there, tap on 'Change applied promos' to enter a promo code or select the promo you would like to use.
