Amp is Lyft's new front emblem for drivers who are eligible. If Amp isn't available in your city yet or you're still working to meet the requirements, no worries! Use your old emblem when giving rides.
Amp sends a message to greet riders when you pick them up, but you won't be able to change what these messages say. We want to make sure drivers aren't distracted when driving, which helps keep rides smooth and safe.
Heads up: many state and local regulations require you to display both your front and back emblems when you’re in driver mode. Learn more about your region's regulations.
To be eligible for Amp, drivers must:
- Complete at least 250 rides in your approved region
- Be in a city where Amp is available
- Have an updated shipping address
Currently, we’re still rolling out Amp in a few cities. We’ll let drivers know when Amp is available in your city throughout 2017 in the app and by text.
How to get your Amp
To get your Amp, you must first complete 250 rides and be in a city where Amp is available.
Once Amp has launched in your city and you've met the requirements, hold tight! We'll send you an invitation and instructions on how to receive your Amp when it's ready.
After we send your invitation, confirm your shipping address in the app. We'll let you know where the Amp is on its journey to your doorstep, usually about 2-3 weeks.
If you're pairing with Lyft Driver for the first time, turn your phone off and hard reset your Amp by pressing the power button for 10 seconds and release. Then, follow these steps:
- Open Lyft Driver
- Tap your profile photo in the top left
- Tap 'Settings'
- Tap 'Amp'
- Tap 'Pair my Amp.' Scroll down to see the pair button. That's it!
On the ‘Settings’ tab, you’ll also find info on how Amp works, installing your Amp, and troubleshooting tips.
Quickly tap the power button once to turn Amp on or off. Holding down the power button resets the Amp, which means you'll have to re-pair it to your phone.
Holding down the power button for 10 seconds triggers a hard reset for your Amp. Use the hard reset if you're having persistent pairing issues or if you're pairing with Lyft Driver for the first time.
Amp connects to its base using a strong magnetic bond that won't move while you drive. Use special adhesive to mount the base, then place the Amp on the base.
We carefully reviewed dozens of adhesives before selecting one for the Amp base. We chose this adhesive specifically because it won't damage your dashboard during removal, but stays strong enough to hold the Amp base to your dashboard.
The base will stay connected to your dashboard, but you can easily remove and store your Amp while not driving.
To remove the adhesive, slowly pull the base and sticker from your dashboard.
Amp's battery lasts up to 8 hours and can charge in your car with any standard USB charging cable. We include a charging cable with every Amp.
We recommend keeping Amp plugged in while giving rides, but note that extreme temperatures (like high heat) may affect battery life. When the weather gets hot, try turning up the air conditioning or keeping Amp in your center console until evening.
Heads up, Express Drive renters: Per your rental agreement, Amps should be returned with your Express Drive vehicle to avoid incurring a fee.
Why is Amp displaying on my screen when I don't have one? Sometimes the app will show the Amp icon or instruct you to pair to an Amp, even if you don’t have one yet. Don't worry! You can still drive. This is a known issue and we're working hard on a solution.
If you've paired with an Amp before, the Amp is may display on your screen because the app is recognizing another driver’s Amp. Here’s a quick fix for drivers who have paired with Amp before:
- Tap ‘Settings’
- Tap ‘Amp’
- Tap ‘Amp won’t connect’
- Tap ‘Unpair.’ That’s it!
For almost two years, the iconic Glowstache brightened many a day and dashboard. Alas, it's time to retire your trusty ‘stache. We hear it makes a great night light.
