PIN verification for drivers

PIN verification helps you make sure you’re with the right passenger before starting the ride. If either the rider or driver has PIN verification enabled, it will be required for the ride to start.
Note: PIN verification may not be available for every ride.

How it works
Passengers will get a four-digit code when you pick them up. You’ll enter the PIN into the Lyft Driver app. If you have the right passenger, you can give the ride as usual.
Turning PIN verification on or off
To turn PIN verification on or off, open the main menu in the Lyft Driver app, then:
  1. Select ‘Learning and Resources.’
  2. Select ‘Safety tools,’ then ‘PIN verification.’
  3. Turn PIN verification on or off.
Note: You can choose to require PIN verification on every ride or only at night (9 PM–6 AM).
PIN didn’t work
You can cancel the ride if the PIN is incorrect after a series of failed attempts. This won’t impact your acceptance or cancel rate.
Continue with ride
You can also choose to continue with the ride if you’ve confirmed the passenger’s name and pickup details.
Troubleshooting
Ask the passenger to check their Lyft app for the PIN. You can select ‘Rider can’t find PIN,’ and a new PIN will automatically be sent to your passenger.
