Lost & found for drivers

If a passenger leaves something in your vehicle, they may contact you or Lyft to arrange retrieving the item.
If a passenger calls looking for a lost item, the call uses a third-party app so both your phone numbers aren't visible to the other. If Lyft texts you because a passenger has reached out to us, contact them using the phone number we provide.
Note: Lost item drop-offs are no longer accepted at Lyft Hubs. If you know who the item belongs to, but are unable to meet with them in person, tap 'Contact Us' at the bottom of this page.

Return a lost item
To contact a passenger to arrange the return of a lost item, open the menu of the Lyft Driver app and tap 'Support & Safety' and 'Get Help.'
Please include the following:
  • Item description
  • Passenger's name
  • Pickup and drop-off locations
  • Time and date of ride
  • Permission to give the passenger your phone number
After you've submitted your Support request, Lyft will notify the passenger via text and email about the lost item.
Lost item return rides
When a passenger reports a lost item, we may offer you a ride to bring it back to them. You're paid for the trip, and the return happens in the app instead of over text or phone.
Getting a return ride offer
If a passenger reports something missing, you'll get a prompt in the app asking whether it's in your car. We'll wait for a moment when you aren't driving to show it.
If you confirm you have the item, we may offer you a scheduled ride to bring it back. The offer shows your earnings, the drop-off address, any instructions the passenger left, and any tip they added before sending it.
You can accept or decline. If you decline, you can still arrange the return with the passenger through chat.
Driving a return ride
A return ride is like a scheduled ride, but with more flexibility on timing. There’s no passenger to pick up, and you don’t need to arrive at a set time. The passenger chooses a drop-off window, and you can return the item any time within it.
Before you head out, check the ride details for any instructions the passenger added, like which entrance to use or where to meet. You'll see them again when you arrive.
The passenger can follow your progress, so they'll know when you're close.
When you arrive, meet the passenger and hand over the item. Then mark it as returned in the app to complete the ride.
The trip shows up in your earnings and ride history as a Lost Item Return Ride.
If the passenger doesn't meet you
Wait at the drop-off location for 15 minutes, then try calling the backup number in the app. If you still can't reach them, you can mark the item as not returned and end the ride. You'll be paid in full for the trip.
Canceling a return ride
You can cancel a return ride at any point, the same way you'd cancel any other ride. If you cancel, the passenger can arrange the return with you directly through chat.
Lost & found fee
Lyft values your time and effort. How you're paid depends on how the item gets back to the passenger.
I see a ride marked 'Lost Item'
A ride labeled ‘Lost Item’ means a passenger contacted you because they left an item in your car.
If you found an item in your car, open the menu and tap 'Support & Safety' and 'Get Help'.
Returns through a return ride
You're paid for the trip, based on time and distance, plus any tip the passenger added. You'll see your earnings on the offer before you accept.
Return rides count toward your streaks, ride challenges, geo bonuses, and rewards points. In regions with an earnings commitment, they count toward it. They don't count toward regional hourly earnings requirements like Prop 22, because there's no passenger in the car.
The $20 lost item fee doesn't apply to a return ride, since you've already been paid for the trip. You won't be able to claim it in the lost item chat, and support can't add it.
Returns outside a return ride
You're paid a $20 fee when you return a lost item without a return ride. This fee is added to your earnings within 2-3 business days.
