Creating a Lyft account or signing into the app
When you launch the Lyft app, you'll be presented with 'Sign up' and 'Log in' buttons. Double-tap the 'Sign up' button to start. Your first prompt will be to enter your phone number.
If you're an existing Lyft rider and you need to recover your account, swipe right from the phone number text field. Double-tap the 'Find My Account' button to recover your account via email.
Once you've submitted the email associated with your Lyft account, we'll send you an account recovery link.
If you already have an account and need to log in, follow the same steps below to sign back in.
Step 1: Enter your phone number
The next screen will say 'What's your number?' and ask for you to enter your phone number.
Google's Smart Lock credential picker will prompt you to choose a saved phone number from your system.
If you'd rather enter a number manually, dismiss the credential picker. The phone number text field will activate. The number pad keyboard will open in the bottom half of the screen.
When you finish entering your number, navigate the TalkBack cursor to the text field. Swipe right twice to find the 'Next' button.
If you don't have a phone number based in the US, focus on the phone number text field. Swipe left to find the country code button, then double-tap to bring up the country code screen.
Select your country and double-tap to set that as your phone number prefix. You will automatically return to the 'What's your number?' screen.
Swiping right from the country code will bring you back to the phone number field. After entering your phone number, double-tap the 'Next' button to continue on to the next step.
Step 2: Enter the verification code
After entering your phone number, we will send you a text message that has a numerical code.
Enter this code in the 'What's the code?' screen. The number pad will be open and active at the bottom of the screen.
When you receive the text, Android will offer a typing suggestion at the top of the number pad that will contain the Lyft verification code.
Double-tap the suggestion to enter the verification code or type the code in manually. Once verification completes, you will advance to the next screen.
If you didn't receive your code, return to the phone number screen and make sure your number is correct. To get a new code, swipe right from the 'Enter the code' text until you get to the 'Resend code' button.
Double-tap 'Resend code' to go to a TalkBack to a heading that says 'Resend verification code.' Swipe right and you'll find the phone number where we're sending the code. Under the phone number, you can choose to have the code sent via text, or through a phone call. You can dismiss this screen to return to the 'Verification code' screen.
If you enter the wrong code, you'll hear an error. You won't need to delete anything, just enter the number again.
Step 3: Enter your first and last name
The next screen will ask you to enter your first and last name. The Google Smart Lock credential picker will activate to suggest a saved account.
If you'd rather enter your name manually, dismiss the credential picker. The 'First name' text field will be active and the keyboard will open at the bottom of the screen.
Fill in the first and last name fields, then swipe right until you get to the 'Next' button.
Step 4: Enter your email address
Enter your email in the text field on this screen. The text field will already be activated for you. Enter a valid email address, then double-tap the 'Next' button to go to the final screen.
Step 5: Terms of Service
This last page of the sign up process contains our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Please read through them. You can use heading navigation to quickly find to each section of the document.
The 'I agree' button is at the bottom of the screen. You can jump to the button using the down-up scrub gesture. Double-tap 'I agree' to finish setting up your account.
Step 6: Setting up your payment method
Before you request your first ride, you’ll need to set up your default payment method.
After agreeing to the Terms of Service, you'll immediately arrive at the 'Pick how to pay' screen.
Enter your credit card information here. The card number field will activate and the keyboard will be ready at the bottom of the screen.
After entering valid numbers in each field, the TalkBack cursor will move to the next field.
Fill out your credit card number, the expiration date, the CVV code of the card, and finally your zip code.
Once you're done, navigate to the 'Next' button and double-tap.
If you are a new user, you'll reach a screen asking you what you would like to do.
You can choose to start ordering your first ride for right now or schedule a ride for later.
Congratulations! You are now signed up for Lyft and ready to request your first ride.
