Frequently asked questions
I already drive for Lyft, why does this matter to me?
In some cities, only Professional Black Car drivers who meet elevated document requirements will be eligible to give Lux Black rides and have access to priority airport pick ups. Regulatory requirements may require Lyft to collect additional documents in some cities, blocking drivers from giving rides until those requirements are met.
If you drive under a commercial fleet, there will be a separate agreement between Lyft and the Fleet Manager with details regarding pay. All earnings are handled directly by your Fleet Manager.
I’ve submitted my documents and I'm still not approved to drive. What should I do?
The status of your account is likely pending approval. If all documents have been submitted and the requirements above have been met please email firstname.lastname@example.org regarding the status of your documents.
How do I submit my documents?
For owner-operators, a Lyft team member will reach out through SMS to collect the required documents for Professional Black Car drivers. You should receive a text from the phone number 61416 to begin submitting documents.
For fleets, the owner will work directly with our Black Car Fleet Onboarding team to collect and upload the documents required for the company, vehicles, and drivers. Once all documents have been approved, Lyft's Black Car team can add drivers and vehicles to your fleet.
Why can’t we upload documents through the app?
Currently, drivers are not able to upload Black Car documents in the app. For now, all document collection is through SMS.
Lyft will never contact you through SMS from any other number other than 61416 or 23621. You can check out more info on communicating securely with Lyft here.
One of my Black Car documents expired and now my vehicle is blocked. What should I do?
Please email email@example.com or respond to the SMS thread from our secure phone number 61416 or 23621 to inquire about the status of your documents. A Lyft team member will contact you shortly.
