How to Add or Update Payment Info in the App

Paying for Lyft rides is done entirely through the app and is completely cash-free (excluding tips, which can be paid in-app or with cash). See how prices are calculated.

Setting up the app for payment:

The Lyft app stores your payment information. You can add multiple forms of payment and choose on the Payment screen which is used for your ride.

Our payments are processed by Stripe. Please review Stripe's FAQ should you have any questions or concerns about the security of your payment information.

Accepted payment methods:

We accept any major credit card, including American Express, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover, debit cards tied to a checking account, and prepaid cards. Rides can also be paid for with PayPal (iOS and Android), Apple Pay, and Android Pay.

Add your payment information as you sign up:

Lyft works with any major credit card, including American Express, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover, as well as debit cards and prepaid cards.

Editing or updating payment info:

If a charge fails for a ride, the next time you open the app you'll be asked to manually re-enter your payment info. Once you do, the ride charge will process on the new payment method and you'll receive an email receipt.

If your card is about to expire, you'll also be asked to update it.

To edit or update your payment information:

  1. Open the Lyft app
  2. Tap your profile image in the top left corner
  3. Tap 'Payment' and then you can edit or add card info
