What to do if your ride was less than 72 hours ago

There are two ways to contact your driver:

1. Call Your Driver

The fastest and simplest way to get in touch is to call your driver directly. This option is only available to Android users up to 24 hours after a ride.

  1. Open the Lyft app and tap your profile picture in the top left-hand corner. 
  2. Select “Ride History,” locate the ride, and tap “Find Lost Item.” 
  3. Tap “Call.”
    • The call will use a third party app to connect, so your driver won’t see your number and you won’t see theirs.
    • If the call goes to voicemail, be sure to leave your contact information for your driver.

Don’t have the option to call or already left a voicemail? Message your driver.

2. Message Your Driver

If tap-to-call is unavailable or your driver didn’t answer the phone, you can send a text message to your driver using the app or your ride receipt.

Send a message via the Lyft app:

  1. Open the Lyft app and tap your profile picture in the top left-hand corner. 
  2. Select “Ride History,” locate the ride, and tap “Find Lost Item.” 
  3. Tap “Send Message.”
    • We will send your driver a message with the information you provide. What to do if your driver doesn’t respond within 24 hours.

Send a message via your emailed ride receipt:

  1. Check your email for a ride receipt. Note: You must rate your driver to receive a receipt within 24 hours.
  2. At the bottom of the email, click "Find lost item.”
  3. Click “Send Message.”
    • We will send your driver a message with the information you provide. What to do if your driver doesn’t respond within 24 hours.

What to do if your ride was more than 72 hours ago

We’re here to help! Gather the following information and contact us:

  • Your name and the phone number where you can be reached
  • Driver name or time and date of ride
  • Description of the lost item
  • Permission to pass along your contact info

How do I retrieve my item once found?

When talking with or texting your driver, feel free to make arrangements to meet and retrieve the lost item. If you're unable to meet them in person, your driver will contact Lyft to have the item shipped directly to you!

There’s no charge for you to get your item back — but an extra tip can be a great way to thank your driver. Find your best tipping option depending on how long it’s been since your ride.
