Lyft Cash

Lyft Cash is a payment method that helps you plan ahead and budget more easily for rides. You can add money into your Lyft account, and use that money to pay for rides.

Note: Lyft Cash is not available in Canada, is not available to all users, and can’t be used for all Lyft charges.

How it works

Lyft Cash is an additional payment method you can set up through the ‘Payment’ section of the Lyft app. Just add money or retailer gift cards into your Lyft account and it’ll be available for immediate use.

Once you add cash to your Lyft account, Lyft Cash will be automatically enabled on your account. However, users can choose to not use their Lyft Cash balance by switching on/off in the ‘Ride payment’ section in the app when requesting a ride:

Any time more cash is added, Lyft Cash will be automatically enabled. Riders can switch it off in the ‘Ride payment’ section in the app when requesting a ride. If your Lyft Cash balance doesn’t cover the entire cost of a requested ride, any difference between the ride price and your Lyft Cash balance will be charged to your default payment method (the payment method used to load your Lyft Cash). In this case, you can add to your Lyft Cash balance if you want Lyft Cash balance to cover your whole ride.

Enabling Lyft cash in a user’s personal profile will not affect the default method setting in any linked business profile.

Note: Credit, debit, and prepaid cards can be used to add cash to your Lyft account. Commuter cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal aren’t supported at this time.

You can add cash to your Lyft account through the ‘Payment’ section in the Lyft app’s menu. You have the ability to set up automatic refills or manually add cash as needed.
