Questions? We’ve got answers.
What is occupational accident insurance?
Occupational accident insurance provides medical expense and disability benefits for covered injuries while drivers on the Lyft platform are either online in California or are completing trips on the platform that originate in California. The benefits are designed to help reduce the financial impact of an accident on you and your family.
How does occupational accident insurance differ from the rideshare auto liability insurance Lyft provides while I’m online?
The auto liability insurance policy covers third party bodily injury and property damage for covered accidents if your personal insurance does not apply.  The auto liability policy may not cover benefits available to you under occupational accident insurance such as medical expenses and disability payments that result from a covered accident.
Do I need to sign up for this insurance coverage?
No, drivers on the Lyft platform are eligible for occupational accident insurance coverage while they are using the Lyft app and are online in California or completing a trip that originates in California.
Do I need to pay for occupational accident insurance?
No, you do not need to pay for this occupational accident insurance coverage.
When should I report a claim?
You may be eligible for coverage if an accident or injury occurs while you are logged into the Lyft app during the following:
  • Waiting for a ride request while in California
  • Picking up passengers originating in California
How do I report a claim?
If you are injured as the result of an auto accident, report the accident through the Lyft app, or contact our Claims Customer Care team. If your injury resulted from any other incident, please contact Lyft Safetyto report the incident. In both cases, our teams will collect details on the incident and work with our insurance provider to set up a claim.
I was logged into another app at the time of the accident. Am I still eligible for coverage?
You may be eligible for coverage under the occupational accident insurance if you are available to accept requests on several network company platforms at the same time, as long as you are logged into the Lyft app.
However, you are not eligible for occupational accident insurance benefits if you are online on the Lyft app and have accepted a ride request from another network company.
In this scenario, there may be occupational accident insurance benefits available from the other network company.
