Insurance with Express Drive
If you’ve been involved in an accident or collision, please contact us as soon as possible.
Express Drive is a rental program available for drivers in eligible regions. Coverage is classified based on the status (or 'period') you're in when the incident occurs:
- Personal driving: You're offline (i.e. not in driver mode)
- Waiting for a request: When the app is in driver mode and you haven’t received a ride request
- Ride in progress: This includes any time from accepting a ride request until the time the ride has ended in the app

Hertz coverage
Insurance coverage through Hertz will vary depending on the period you're in when the incident occurred.
Personal driving
- Auto Physical Damage: Coverage is provided regardless of fault. This includes a $50,000 limit per vehicle, with a $1,000 deductible for which you’re responsible.
- Auto Liability Coverage: Coverage includes bodily injury and property damage to third parties. (Coverage and limits vary state by state)
- Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist: Coverage may be provided if an incident involves an uninsured or underinsured motorist. See your rental agreement for more details.
Waiting for a request
- Auto Physical Damage: Coverage is provided regardless of fault. This includes a $50,000 limit per vehicle, with a $1,000 deductible for which you’re responsible.
- Auto Liability Coverage: Bodily injury and property damage is covered for third parties. (Coverage and limits vary by state)
- Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist: Coverage may be provided if an incident involves an uninsured or underinsured motorist. See your rentalagreement and Lyft's proof of insurance for more details.
Ride in progress
- Auto Physical Damage: Vehicle coverage is provided regardless of fault. This includes the actual cash value of the vehicle or repair costs (whichever is less) with a $1,000 deductible for which you’re responsible.
- Auto Liability Coverage: Coverage includes bodily injury and property damage to third parties and/or passengers up to $1,000,000 per accident.*
- Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist: Coverage may be provided if an incident involves an uninsured or underinsured motorist. See your rental agreement and Lyft's proof of insurance for more details.
*Note: For covered accidents in Maryland, Lyft maintains $125,000 for third-party liability insurance (combined single limit for bodily injury and property damage) during the time in which a driver is en route to pick up a passenger, consistent with state requirements.
Flexdrive coverage
Insurance coverage through Flexdrive will vary depending on the period you’re in. Depending on what state you drive in, your personal insurance policy may serve as your primary coverage when using personal miles.
